Ewell

Ewell occupies the north-eastern half of the borough minus Stoneleigh remaining a large parish. With an adjoining pond, Ewell has the main spring at the head of the Hogsmill river, a tributary of the River Thames. At Ewell to pass by the central spring, from Chichester, Stane Street, the Roman road deviates from straight slightly.

In Domesday Book, Ewell appears as Etwelle. In the Testa de Nevill, Ewell's spelling appears in the 13th century. Lord of the manor, Henry Lloyd was granted licence to hold a market in Ewell. Bourne Hall in the centre is Ewell's largest landmark.

A residential area and ward of Ewell Village is Ewell Court. Containing Ewell Court House and Ewell Court Lake, in the centre is Ewell Court Park. Home to Ewell St. Mary's Morris Men is Ewell. On Chessington Road is West Ewell Social Club.

On (London Loop) Outer Orbital Path of London route for walking is Ewell. In the 17th century on occasions, Samuel Pepys visited Ewell and mentioned in his diary is the area between 1663 and 1665, in which he spells it Yowell. Beside The Spring pub, Ewell has an unusually large telephone exchange fitted, during the later years of the Cold War, with underground facilities designed to survive a nuclear conflict.

Designed by Henry Clutton and consecrated in 1848, Ewell has (Saint Mary the Virgin), a Parish Church that is C of E. Between the chalk of the North Downs to the south, and the clay of the London Basin to the north, Ewell is on a spring line settlements lone line, founded on a geological line along the hills.

There is the Athletics Track of Ewell at the King George's Field, a Class B track for UK Athletics where the Harriers of Epsom and Ewell since the 1950s have trained, and in Ewell Court, in memorial to King George V, there is a Field of King George.
